To begin with, both fighters take a pre-fighting posture. Both can be in Wing Chun pre-fighting postures or as in the photos above, one person uses a Wing Chun posture while the other uses a standard boxing or street fighting position. The opponent steps up with a left punch or a jab. The defender applies an outside Pak sau or slapping hand at the opponent's wrist. The attacker continuous with a right cross to the head. The defender applies a right Tan sau or palm up hand to deflect the punch, while simultaneously shifting out of the way and countering with a palm up strike, punch or eye attack. The attacker continues with another high left punch to the face. The defender counters with a center strike and uses a left Pak sau as a safety hand. |
Note: There are many variations possible. For example the attacker
can stand on the spot and just alternate Wing Chun punches. The attacker
can charge in with Karate style lunge punches. The attacker can shuffle in
with boxing style punches. The punches can be hard style punches or soft
style punches. The slapping hand can be tried at the wrist or at the forearm or closer to the elbow. If applied at the wrist the attacker can fold and apply an elbow which you might counter with something. If the elbow is controlled by the defender then the attacker might attempt a yielding movement followed by a throat chop. As the Wing Chun training progresses, any movement can be mixed in to any of the drills. For example anything can be mixed in to the Pak sau exercise, the Lap sau exercise or into the rolling hands or into cross hands drills. | ||||
