Sticking Hands

Single Sticking Hands

The single sticking hands is an exercise which incorporates many concepts from the "Little Idea Form." This basic attack and defense exercise is good for training the stance, the center position, relaxation, sensitivity, stickiness and timing.

1. Side A puts the left hand out in the level Palm up hand or "Tan sau" position. Side B puts the right had on top in the Controlling hand or "Fook sau position." Both sides relax.  Both sides have the elbow about a fists distance in front of the body   2. Side A attempts an inside center palm strike to the chest of partner B. Partner B, on sensing movement, rotates the forearm to the Sinking hand or "Jum sau" position. Both sides relax. The Jum sau is meant to be a passive connecting arm to connect with your partner's force.   3. Side B change the Jum sau or sinking hand to a punch. The forward force of the punch changes side A's hand into a Wing hand or "Bong sau" position. The Bong sau is very relaxed. Now both sides return to step 1.

Double Sticking Hands

The double sticking hands can be looked at as a way to tie together all of the techniques and principles which are contained in the various Wing Chun sets. This exercise develops the sensitivity to detect and counter any form of close range attack. Sticking hands teaches you what to do once you are in contact with an opponent.

1. Side A has a left Tan sau and a right high Bong sau. Side B has a left high Bong sau and a right Fook sau. Both sides are relaxed. Then both sides change to the position shown in 2.

  2. Side A has a left high Bong sau and a right Fook sau. Side B has a left Tan sau and a right Fook sau. Both sides are relaxed. Then both sides change to the position shown in 1.
